Tile cleaning and grout cleaning in Darwin

A deep clean that gets into the grout, not just across the top of the tiles. For bathrooms, showers, kitchens, laundries and tiled living areas across Darwin, Palmerston and the rural area.

What’s included

  • A walk-through with you, and an honest read on what will and won’t come up
  • A small test area first where the tile or grout is unusual
  • Pre-treatment matched to the problem: degreaser in kitchens, soap-scum and mould treatment in bathrooms
  • Scrubbing every grout line with grout brushes and machine agitation where the area suits it
  • Rinsing and extracting the dirty water, so it doesn’t dry back into the grout
  • A final check with you, plus advice on drying and keeping it clean

Why a professional clean works when mopping doesn’t

Mopping moves dirt around. Because grout lines sit slightly lower than the tiles, the dirty water from the mop runs into them and dries there. That’s why grout often gets darker the more you mop.

A proper clean does three things a mop can’t. It lets the cleaning solution sit long enough to break down grease, soap and organic build-up. It scrubs into the grout rather than over it. And it removes the dirty solution instead of leaving it behind. The rinse and extraction step is what makes the difference.

How long it takes and when you can use the room

As a guide: about an hour to an hour and a half for a shower recess, two to three hours for a standard bathroom, and two to three hours for around 30 m² of floor. Long-neglected grout takes longer.

Cleaned tiles are usually ready to walk on within an hour or two. Grout takes longer to dry right through, more so in the wet season. Running the air-con or a fan and keeping windows closed on humid days helps. If you’ve booked sealing, the grout has to be dry first. See grout sealing for cure times.

What affects the price

  • Size. Rooms have fixed prices; floors are priced per square metre.
  • Condition. Very dark, long-neglected floor grout is $12/m² instead of $9/m². We confirm this with you before starting.
  • Sealing. Clear or colour sealing is an add-on to the clean.
  • Tile type. Natural stone may need a different approach, and we’ll confirm before booking.

Before and after

Example results from professional tile and grout cleaning. Every job is different: tile type, grout age and how long it has been stained all affect what comes up, so we tell you what to expect before we start.

What to expect from a clean

Usually lifts

Everyday dirt, soap scum, body oils and grease, and most surface mould and mildew staining on grout.

Often improves, may not fully lift

Grout that has been dark for years, deep-set stains and old mould shadows. It will be much cleaner, but may not return to its original colour. Colour sealing evens it out.

Cleaning can't fix

Cracked, crumbling or missing grout, mould growing inside silicone, and water getting in behind tiles. These need repair work, which we don't do. We'll tell you if we see it.

Tile cleaning as an end-of-lease add-on

Dirty grout in the bathroom and kitchen is an easy thing for a property manager to note at a final inspection. A general bond clean wipes the tiles down, but it may not include deep grout cleaning. Check with your cleaner.

If it isn’t included, book us for the day before or the morning of your bond clean. Put your handover date in the notes when you request a quote. The same published prices apply.

What we don’t do

  • Regrouting or replacing cracked grout
  • Shower leak repairs or waterproofing
  • Re-tiling or replacing broken tiles
  • Replacing mouldy silicone
  • Outdoor tiles, pool surrounds and pavers (see below)

Outdoor tiles, driveways or roof?Pool surrounds, pavers and outdoor tiles are done by our sister brand.

Questions about tile cleaning

What kinds of tiles do you clean?

Glazed ceramic and porcelain tiles indoors: bathrooms, showers, kitchens, laundries, living areas and hallways. Natural stone such as marble, travertine and limestone needs different, gentler products, so tell us in the form and we’ll confirm whether it suits our method before booking.

How long does a tile and grout clean take?

A shower recess usually takes about an hour to an hour and a half, a standard bathroom two to three hours, and a 30 m² floor around two to three hours. Heavily soiled grout and sealing add time.

Do I need to be home?

Someone needs to let the cleaner in and confirm the job at the start. After that you don’t need to stay, as long as we can reach you by phone.

Is the clean safe for kids and pets?

Keep children and pets out of the area while the work is under way and until floors are dry. The cleaner will tell you when the area is ready to use, and when it’s safe to walk on any sealed grout.
