Kitchen and floor tile cleaning in Darwin
Tiles are everywhere in Top End homes because they stay cool underfoot. Over time, grout lines on busy floors go darker and darker, however often you mop. Here’s how we bring them back.
Why floor grout gets darker the more you mop
Grout lines sit slightly lower than the tiles. Every time you mop, the dirty water runs into them and dries there, leaving a little more dirt behind. In kitchens, cooking grease settles on the floor near the cooktop and holds onto dirt even more. After a few years, light grout can look brown or grey all over.
A professional clean lets the solution break down grease and grime, scrubs into each grout line, then rinses and extracts the dirty water, so the dirt leaves the floor instead of moving around on it.
What’s included
- Floor tiles and grout in the rooms you book: kitchen, living, dining, hallways, entries
- Degreasing in the kitchen, especially around the cooktop and bench line
- Machine agitation on open areas, hand-brushing along edges and corners
- Rinse and extraction, then a final wipe of the tile surface
- Optional splashback clean ($69) and floor sealing (from $5/m²)
Working out your price
Floors are $9 per square metre. Measure each tiled room (length × width) and add them up. Some examples:
- Kitchen and dining, 20 m²: $180
- Open-plan kitchen, living and hallway, 40 m²: $360
- The same 40 m² with clear sealing: $560
If the grout is very dark from years of build-up, the rate is $12/m². That’s confirmed with you on the day, before any work starts. The minimum booking is $159.
Drying and getting the room back
Floors are usually fine to walk on in socks within an hour or two. Grout dries more slowly, especially in the wet season, so keep the air-con running and outside doors closed on humid days if you can. If you’ve booked sealing, the grout has to dry first. The cleaner will tell you when the floor can take normal traffic again.
Floor tiles, before and after
Example results from professional tile and grout cleaning. Every job is different: tile type, grout age and how long it has been stained all affect what comes up, so we tell you what to expect before we start.

Questions about floor tiles
How do I work out my floor area?
Measure the length and width of each tiled room in metres and multiply them. A 5 m by 4 m living room is 20 m², which is $180 at $9/m². Rough is fine; we confirm on the day and the price only changes if the area is clearly different.
Do I need to move furniture?
Please move small items, rugs and anything fragile before we arrive. We clean around heavy furniture unless it has been moved beforehand.
How soon can I walk on the floor?
Usually within an hour or two in socks or bare feet. Grout takes longer to dry right through, especially on humid days. If the floor has been sealed, the cleaner will tell you when it can take normal traffic.
Can you clean polished porcelain or stone floors?
Polished porcelain, yes. Natural stone such as marble, travertine or limestone can be damaged by the wrong products, so tell us in the form. We’ll confirm whether it suits our method before booking.
